NORTHERN RED SEA
The Northern Red Sea offers famous wreck diving with stunning wall and hard coral garden reef diving. The dive sites are suitable for almost any experience level, so northern itineraries are a great choice for divers who are interested in experiencing liveaboard diving for the first time. Northern Red Sea liveaboards are also recommended for photographers and wreck lovers.
The southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula offers a wide range of quality dive sites including some of the Red Sea's most spectacular reefs, walls, and a number of stunning wrecks. The Straits of Tiran are made up of four reefs - Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon - which are home to a plethora of soft corals, gorgonians, and a great diversity of fish. Nurse sharks, whitetip reef sharks and even hammerheads can be found, and in the deep ridges that separate the reefs, larger pelagic fish are often seen passing through. Moving south, you reach the marine park of Ras Mohamed. These world famous reefs are some of the most breathtaking in the Red Sea. Nutrient-rich sediment is transported to the reef system from the Gulf of Aqaba, attracting an abundance of fish species, as well as giant gorgonians and multi-coloured corals.
The Ships’ Graveyard is famous for the four wrecks of Abu Nuhas. This reef lies close to the ship-lane towards the Suez Canal, and has claimed more ships than any other in the Red Sea. They are very scenic, fantastic for photography, and covered in corals, especially the Carnatic, that sunk in 1869.
The very famous SS Thistlegorm and the recently discovered Rosalie Moller are Second World War wrecks, and one of the highlights of this cruise. The SS Thistlegorm sunk in 1941; bombed by the Germans, while on a mission to deliver a cargo of ammunition and war material to the British troops in North Africa. The Rosalie Moller, a British coal cargo, suffered the same destiny only two days later.
Close to the Port of Safaga lies the wreck of the ferry Salem Express that tragically hit a reef 10 years ago, when coming back from Saudi Arabia, claiming over a thousand deaths. Many fish and corals have made it there home now, especially famous is a big red frog fish.
In addition to wrecks, there is ample opportunity to dive the reefs off Hurghada and Safaga, which are very rich and wide-ranging. A variety of colourful walls and hard coral gardens with plenty of colourful fish make them well worth a visit.

This information sheet is designed as a guide line to activities and diving planned for this special week.
Although the Reef Clean-up dives are planned all dive sites visited are weather dependent and therefore, it is difficult to list them day by day
We have planned 2-3 Reef Clean-ups and 4 seminars for the week. This will allow you to also enjoy some fantastic ‘pleasure’ dives throughout your week. Seminar and Reef Cleanup participation is optional and you can just enjoy a nice week’s safari in the northern Red Sea. Non-divers are also very welcome.
Reef Clean-up dives:
• dive guides will run through the plan for the 2-3 optional clean-up dives
on the safari during dive site briefings.
• There are many dive sites in the Red Sea that could benefit from clean-up dives and so the actual sites that are visited during the safari will depend very much on where clean-ups are most needed. Some examples of sites visited are Beacon Rock, Shaab el Erg, Siyul Kebir, The Barge at Gubal Island and Ras Mohamed.
