Why we rate this centre

Brayka Divers is a well-equipped PADI dive centre (also offering SSI and CMAS training) located at Brayka Bay in the southern Red Sea, serving guests of Brayka Bay Resort and Royal Brayka Resort. Managed by Kris Williams with an international team of around 35 staff, the centre prioritises quality, safety and fun. Facilities include a training pool next to air-conditioned classrooms, a central rinse pool, dry rooms, a cosy meeting area, shaded access to the house reef and speedboats, and a diver pergola about 80 m from the centre on the beach. Rental gear comes from reputable brands (Mares, Aqualung, Suunto and others), with regular maintenance by certified technicians. Emergency oxygen, first-aid equipment and drills are standard; a 24/7 decompression chamber is within about 10 minutes. Nitrox is available, and the team supports a local deco-chamber donation programme.

The short distances to the house reef and speedboat mooring make it ideal for both divers and snorkellers of all levels. Divers with fewer than 25 logged dives must be guided (CDWS-licensed); more experienced divers can explore the house reef unguided. Languages supported include English, German, Dutch, French, Italian and others.

The house reef sits in a naturally sheltered bay, protected from wind and high waves, allowing safe year-round diving and snorkelling. It offers six diverse spots suitable for beginners through to experienced divers. Entry is easy and safe via a sandy bottom from the middle of the beach—excellent for courses and shallow-water skills. The north side is particularly well-protected. Healthy coral covers walls with overhangs, coral gardens and pinnacles, supporting a rich variety of fish of all sizes and colours, plus the chance of turtles, moray eels, lionfish, clownfish and more. Early-morning or night dives are available (surcharge applies).

A free Zodiac runs daily for exploring the south side of the reef: start outside by boat and drift or swim back along the reef to the beach. Speedboat dives use convenient jetty steps for easier boarding. The calm, clear water just 50–80 m from the centre is perfect for training and relaxed daily diving.

The centre teaches to PADI standards (with SSI and CMAS options available; some instructors can certify across agencies) using digital materials and native-language instruction for better understanding and safety. Courses run from beginner to instructor level, with theory in air-conditioned classrooms and practical sessions in the pool and nearby house reef.

Daily house-reef diving is complemented by a wide range of half-day and full-day trips by speedboat (two modern boats based in the bay for short hops to ~15 nearby sites), minibus, or larger day boats from Marsa Alam harbour (~20 minutes south by bus) and Port Ghalib (~35 minutes north). This gives access to the full spectrum of Marsa Alam sites. Full-day boat trips typically include lunch and soft drinks. Shore/minibus trips reach beautiful beach dives in the area. Approximately 25 dive sites feature healthy, colourful coral and abundant marine life.
Popular sites and how they are reached
  • Elphinstone Reef – World-famous wall and drift dive (~20–30 min by speedboat). Steep soft-coral walls, gorgonians, sponges; oceanic whitetip sharks (Longimanus), occasional hammerheads (especially June–July), barracuda, tuna, turtles and Napoleon wrasse. Requires Advanced certification and ideally 50+ logged dives with current/shark experience.
  • Abu Dabab (Turtle Bay) – ~15 min by minibus north. Sheltered bay with seagrass; reliable giant green turtles. Easy beach entry, ideal for beginners, snorkellers and families. Nearby Gota Abu Dabab sites by speedboat.
  • Shaab Samadai (Dolphin House) – Full-day boat trip (transfer to Marsa Alam harbour then ~1 hour by boat). Horseshoe reef and marine park with resident spinner (sometimes bottlenose) dolphins. Two dives possible; excellent for families and snorkellers (lifejackets required to protect the dolphins). Protected zones managed by HEPCA.
  • Shaab Marsa Alam – Coral garden with pinnacles, channels, schools of fish, morays; small wreck interest.
  • Equinox / Dugong sites – Seagrass areas for dugong (sea cow) and turtle sightings; popular for snorkelling with boat support.
  • Other nearby options by speedboat or minibus: Habiba Wall, Marsa Assalaya, Marsa Egla, Marsa Murain / Shouna Bay, Om Halhalla, Abu Nawas Garden, Nemo City, Long Canyon, Habili sites, Abu Ghusson / Hamata wreck area, and more.
Trips range from relaxed half-day speedboat or minibus outings to full-day adventures. Early-morning, night and guided options are available. The combination of a protected house reef for daily diving and easy access to iconic southern Red Sea sites (sharks, dolphins, turtles, dugongs, pristine walls and coral gardens) makes Brayka Divers an excellent base for a varied Marsa Alam diving holiday.

Dive Lessons
PADI Open Water E-Learning Course (Incl. E Learning)
day(s)
From £434

Diver certification begins here. Start with PADI's online eLearning course. Move to the pool and practice your new skills. Then experience four open water (ocean/lake) dives. During the PADI Open Water Diver course, you’ll learn what you need to know to explore the underwater world using scuba.

The PADI Open Water Diver course includes three parts: Knowledge Development, Confined Water Dives, and Open Water Dives. Knowledge Development covers the principles, concepts and terms you need to know for dive safety and enjoyment. During the Confined Water Dives, you learn and practice scuba skills in a pool or water with pool-like conditions. You’ll enjoy making one or more minidives, which take you through the same steps you follow when you make open water dives. To complete training you practice, apply, and demonstrate what you learn during four Open Water Dives at a local dive site.

Earning a PADI Open Water Diver certification shows that you met the course requirements. Dive centers and resorts require proof of certification before they will rent scuba equipment, fill scuba cylinders or book dive excursions. As a PADI Open Water Diver, you’ll be trained to a maximum depth of 18 metres/60 feet, and are qualified to dive in conditions as good as, or better than, those in which you trained. It’s just the beginning of a lifetime filled with dive adventures.

In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device, and a tank. The equipment you wear varies, depending upon whether you’re diving in tropical, temperate or cold water.

Note:

You will be asked to sign a PADI or SSI medical form to complete the course. If you think you may have any medical condition that could effect your ability to dive we recommend a PADI Dive Medical prior to booking. Certification & Material not included. You need to be 10 years or older, able to swim and have approximately 8-15 hours to dedicate to the course.

Dive Lessons
Junior PADI Open Water E-Learning Course (Incl. E Learning)
day(s)
From £434

PADI’s Junior Open Water Diver course is similar to the adult certification program and prepares kids to become full-fledged divers when they are of age. Students as young as 10 years old can utilize the eLearning program Open Water Diver course online (minimum age requirements may be higher in some locations due to local laws and regulations). This course allows kids to get their first PADI scuba certification. Children can learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures, or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts.

The PADI Junior Open Water Course is typically run over five days and is a fun-filled course designed to qualify kids to dive to a maximum depth of 12m. The fun part about this course is . . . well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible. Kids get to learn to breathe underwater for the first time (something they’ll never forget) and learn what they need to know to become a certified diver. During the course, children will first train in the pool and then get to explore wondrous reefs, under the supervision of a PADI Instructor.

The PADI Junior Open Water Course consists of three main phases:

- Knowledge development to understand basic principles of scuba diving.
- Confined water dives (pool training) to learn basic scuba skills.
- Open water dives to review skills and explore!

In the PADI Junior Open Water Course, children will learn to use basic scuba gear and standard accessories.

Note:

To begin the program, students must be at least 10 years old and be able to swim.

To ensure that young divers don’t exceed their limits, the Junior Open Water certification comes with restrictions. Divers 10-11 years old must dive with a PADI Professional or a certified parent or guardian, and dives cannot exceed 12 meters/40 feet. Divers 12-14 years old must dive with a certified adult and dives cannot exceed 18 meters / 60 feet.

After completing your eLearning, you’ll make five Adventure Dives: a deep dive (beyond 18m/60F), a navigation dive, and three additional Adventure Dives of your choice to earn your certification.

From day to day the dive centre may offer the option to join a boat dive, or do a trip to a further away dive site, which will require a supplement to be paid locally.

This dive service is guided by a divemaster, instructor or similar. It includes tanks, weights and air only. If you need to rent diving equipment this can be done onsite and paid locally. As a rough guide a full days equipment rental is normally USD 30-50.

Note:
