Our chosen partner, PADI scuba diving centre in Sal, is right on the beach in Santa Maria. It’s set up for easy, holiday-friendly diving, with a full range of PADI courses, guided fun dives, and other water activities all based from the same beachfront centre.
For qualified divers, they offer guided dives on Sal’s best-known sites, including cave-style swim-throughs where turtles may be resting, areas known for large stingrays, and wreck diving (including a well-known Soviet-era shipwreck), plus smaller “macro” sites for photographers and anyone who enjoys the details.
They also offer both boat dives and shore dives, so the daily plan can be matched to sea conditions and your experience level.
For beginners, they run “try diving” style experiences (PADI Discover Scuba Diving) designed to get you comfortable in the water first, then out for real sea dives under close instructor supervision.
They are the only PADI 5 Star IDC centre, which means they’re set up not only to teach core recreational courses, but also to run instructor-level training. They cater for first-timers right through to advanced divers who want to build confidence, improve technique, or add new skills and certifications.
Course structure is what you’d expect from a strong, organised school:
- Theory sessions are run at their training facilities on the beach, including an air-conditioned classroom (a big comfort win in a hot, sunny destination).
- Water training then progresses into open water dives on local sites around Sal, led by qualified PADI instructors and supported by experienced boat skippers.
What tends to set them apart is the combination of “proper dive school” credentials with a premium beachfront setup:
- PADI 5 Star IDC status: not every centre can run instructor-development programmes, and it’s usually a good sign of depth in training standards, staff experience, and facilities.
- Prime beach location: simple logistics, fast turnarounds, and a more relaxed flow to the day (especially helpful for families and mixed groups).
- Range of dive sites: caves, turtles, rays, wrecks, and macro options mean there’s variety even if you’re doing multiple dives across a week.
Their dive team includes qualified and experienced boat skippers and PADI instructors, which matters on boat diving and in changeable sea conditions. They also operate as a full-service dive centre (including air fills and equipment provision), which typically supports smoother daily operations and more consistent safety checks.
