Z Hotel Zanzibar Overview

Z hotel is the original boutique hotel on Zanzibar; opening in 2010, it brings casual relaxation blended with contemporary London–inspired design to the beaches of Zanzibar, providing the 21st-century traveller with a fresh and original beach-holiday experience. Set in a tropical garden with steps to the white powder of Nungwi’s award-winning beach and temperate Indian Ocean, the Z hotel will provide you with everything you need for a unique away-from-it-all holiday but with all the advantages of modern living, including LCD tv, cable tv, wifi & docking stations in all rooms.

The London-inspired design blends Philippe Starck furniture and lighting with Zanzibari features to create a bright, airy atmosphere. The Z was named one of the ‘trendiest hotels in Africa’ by TripAdvisor and the world travel awards – and the only one in Tanzania. The location of the Z means you are perfectly placed to enjoy some of the best diving, snorkelling and fishing available anywhere in the world as well as a range of water sports. The world-renowned Mnemba atoll has one of the highest concentrations of turtles anywhere in the world and is just a half-hour boat ride away.

Accommodation

At the Z Hotel, guests are offered luxury and comfort blended with contemporary design. Each guest room comes with Travertine Marble floors imported from Turkey, Italian designer bathroom suites, crisp cotton bed linen from Egypt and bespoke furniture exclusive to the Z Hotel made from locally sourced coconut wood.

There are 5 room designs: Deluxe Garden View, Deluxe Sea View, Roof-Top Suites, Ocean Front Cottages with private decks over the sea and for the ultimate in opulence, there’s the 70 sq metre Z Suite with 2 terraces. Each bedroom has French doors, set in floor to ceiling glass which lead onto a balcony with views over the landscaped tropical garden and out across the crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean to the magnificent Zanzibari sunset on the distant horizon.

Deluxe Rooms

The garden view rooms occupy the ground floor and offer easy access to the tropical gardens, pool and beach - the perfect spot to catch the wonderful aromas from the equatorial plants and flowers.

The sea view rooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors and offer panoramic views from the northern tip of Nungwi out across to the distant tanga mountains and continuing down the west coast of the island. natural light floods the rooms until the evening when the blood-red sun finally drops off the far edge of the earth.

Rooftop Suites

With over 50 square metres of living space, the light and airy roof-top suites encompass all the benefits ofther deluxe rooms but with many additional features. Perched on top of the building, they feature a double-height beamed ceiling, spacious private terrace, 42 inch LCD television and uninterrupted views across the Indian Ocean to the tanga mountains in the far distance.

Ocean Front Cottages

The two oceanfront cottages offer 60 square metres of living space arranged over 2 floors with a living room on the ground floor and bedroom on the 1st floor. Situated separately from the rest of the hotel, the cottages afford complete privacy with only the seemingly endless seascape of the Indian Ocean gently lapping the timbers beneath you.

The Z Suite

This stunning light and airy signature suite consists of 70 square metres of opulent living space arranged across an entire rooftop with fully fold-back doors to create a seamless synergy between inside and out. In addition to the features of the roof-top suites, the Z Suite also incorporates a 45m wrap-around terrace, separate living and sleeping area with a super king bed, soft Italian leather furnishings and a private staircase.

Dining

Saruche
The alfresco restaurant, Saruche, is open for supper offering a contemporary African-European fusion menu along with locally-sourced fish and seafood prepared by the Senegalese chef. The atmosphere is one of simple elegance where you can sample some of the finest cuisine Zanzibar has to offer, including tuna ceviche, Senegalese crab curry and grilled lobster while savouring imported wines from the international wine selection as the waves gently lap the timbers of the deck below.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a light and airy café bar situated on the 1st floor overlooking the ocean which offers a casual menu of Asian inspired platters and stir-fries along with simple classics like burgers and salads. The bar is fully stocked with a range of imported drinks and is perfectly positioned for watching the magnificent Zanzibari sunset at the end of a hard day’s sunbathing on the private beach, accompanied, of course, by one of the signature cocktails.

Rooftops
Rooftops is the 2nd-floor open-to-the-sky champagne and cocktail bar with an extensive international cocktail and champagne menu. Lie back on one of the bespoke coconut wood bandas and watch the stars lighting up the heavens above.
