Four Seasons On Desroches
Beautiful Desroches Island sits in the Seychelles’ Amirante Archipelago, considered one of the world’s most pristine. There are miles of stunning white sand beach, healthy coral reefs and lush native tropical forest to enjoy. To reach Desroches you take a scenic 40-minute flight over the vast Indian Ocean from Mahé Airport: five scheduled services operate per week.
The resort on Desroches was taken over and refurbished by the world-renowned Four Seasons Hotel chain some years ago, resulting in understated yet palpable luxury in a stunning location, ideal for couples, honeymooners and families looking for somewhere just that little bit more special.
Rooms are in individual villas, each of which is located only metres from the picture-book beaches found on the island. There are several room categories available, including beach villas and bungalows; two bedroom villas; and three- or seven-bedroom presidential villas. Complimentary bicycles are provided, allowing guests to explore the rest of the island as they wish (a buggy service is available too, if preferred).
The resort offers a varied choice of dining venues, all serving delicious fare. Claudine is an all-day, Mediterranean inspired restaurant next to the pool; the Deli offers fresh, light snacks throughout the day; the Lighthouse specialises in freshly grilled meats and seafood; and in-villa dining is available 24 hours a day. There is also the main bar, beach bar and lighthouse lounge bar.
Desroches has always been famous in the Seychelles for its scuba diving sites: the Desroches Drop is legendary as is the Circus cave dive. Good reef snorkelling is found just off the beach at various points in the island, and you can also kayak the lagoon and take nature walks to see the giant tortoises and, if lucky, a turtle laying its eggs.
The island’s spa is a must for first class therapies and various soothing massages.
Where the turquoise lagoon waters meet the deeper and darker blues of the Indian Ocean is a sheer drop-off that reveals a dramatic underwater maze of caves and a colourful collection of marine life. The best part? This is just one of 14 world-class dive sites that surround our island – ranging from secret passages and spectacular reef walls – all waiting to be discovered.
