Tsara Komba Lodge, in detail

Tsara Komba Lodge

Tsara Komba Lodge is a boutique ecolodge set on the island of Nosy Komba, off the northwest coast of Madagascar. The atmosphere is intimate and unhurried, surrounded by rainforest and overlooking turquoise seas. It is best for couples and families who want a gentle mix of comfort and authenticity, where the focus is on nature, Malagasy culture, and personal service. The feel of the place is rustic yet refined, combining locally crafted architecture with thoughtful touches of luxury. Its highlights include encounters with lemurs in the forest, a private beach, boat trips to nearby islands, and fresh cuisine sourced from its own organic garden.
There are just eight accommodations, all designed to blend with their surroundings. They are built from rosewood and stone, with high ceilings, wide terraces, and views across the sea.
The Ocean View Lodges are around 90 square metres each. Inside, they have a large bedroom with a king-size bed draped in a mosquito net, which can also be arranged as a twin if needed. A third bed can be added on request, allowing the villa to sleep up to three guests. The bathroom is semi-open with a separate WC, and there is a fan for ventilation. Each lodge opens out to a private terrace furnished with loungers and shaded seating, with gardens providing seclusion and wide views across the bay.
The Ocean View Suites are larger at around 120 square metres. These suites are designed with a main bedroom and a lounge that can be converted into a second bedroom, allowing them to accommodate up to four guests. Like the lodges, they include mosquito-netted king-size beds, semi-open bathrooms, and shaded terraces, but the extra living space makes them well suited for small families or friends travelling together. Each suite also has a private garden leading down to the beach.
The lodge’s facilities are centred on a main building with an open-air lounge, restaurant, and bar overlooking the water. Meals combine Malagasy flavours with French and international influences, often featuring seafood, tropical fruit, and vegetables from the property’s organic garden. Dining is relaxed and tailored to guests, with a focus on freshness and simplicity.
The beach in front of the lodge is private and reserved for guests, with sun loungers and calm waters for swimming and snorkelling. Equipment such as kayaks, pirogues, and snorkelling gear is provided, and casual games such as volleyball or badminton are available. Massages can be arranged, and internet is available in the lounge, though it is limited to encourage guests to disconnect and enjoy the natural setting.
Activities include forest walks on Nosy Komba to see black lemurs, chameleons, and birdlife, as well as hikes up the island’s slopes for wide sea views. Boat trips take guests to Nosy Tanikely Marine Reserve, Nosy Iranja, and the Mitsio or Radama archipelagos for diving and snorkelling. Excursions to Lokobe Reserve on Nosy Be give the chance to see more Madagascan wildlife, while dolphin and whale watching is possible in season. Visits to nearby fishing villages and markets provide cultural encounters, and guests can also explore plantations and learn about local crafts.
The lodge is strongly committed to sustainability. Solar energy is used for heating, waste is recycled where possible, and wastewater is reused in the gardens. Produce is grown organically on site, and staff are hired from local communities. The lodge also supports local projects through micro-loans and funding for healthcare and education.
Tsara Komba Lodge is not a large or flashy resort but a place of peace, authenticity, and understated luxury. It is for those who want to connect with Madagascar’s landscapes and people while enjoying comfort, privacy, and attentive service. Couples will find romance and tranquillity, while families will discover space for exploration and learning in a truly unique setting.
