Constance Tsarabanjina Madagascar, in detail

Constance Tsarabanjina Madagascar

Constance Tsarabanjina is a barefoot luxury hideaway on a small private island in the Mitsio Archipelago, north of Nosy Be in Madagascar. The island is encircled by white sand beaches and turquoise waters, with lush greenery rising in the centre. It is best for couples and travellers who want seclusion, simplicity, and natural beauty rather than glitz. The atmosphere is laid-back and intimate, with an emphasis on relaxation, fine dining, and the sense of being far away from the rest of the world. Highlights include the island’s pristine reefs, rustic-chic beachfront villas, and the quiet rhythm of island life where shoes are hardly ever worn.
Accommodation is simple but stylish, designed to blend into the landscape while offering comfort. There are just twenty-five villas, all set directly on the sand, each with its own private terrace and uninterrupted sea views.
The Beach Villas are about 47 square metres in size. Each has a bedroom with either a king-size or twin beds draped in a mosquito net, a fan for cooling, an en suite bathroom with shower, and a furnished terrace that looks straight onto the beach. Villas are decorated with natural wood and local touches, keeping the design light and airy. They are designed for two adults, with space for a child if needed.
The South Beach Villas are located along one stretch of beach, giving wide views and dramatic sunsets, while the North Beach Villas face a quieter part of the island with calmer seas. Both categories share the same interiors and facilities, with the main difference being their location and the atmosphere of the beach outside.
The lodge facilities are centred around a main open-air building with the restaurant and bar, overlooking the sea. Meals are included in the stay and focus on fresh seafood, Malagasy specialities, and international dishes with French influence. The bar offers cocktails, local rum, and wines, with relaxed seating areas on the sand where guests gather in the evenings.
There is a small spa hut where massages and wellness treatments can be enjoyed with views of the water. Internet is deliberately limited, to encourage guests to slow down and disconnect.
The island is surrounded by a marine reserve, making snorkelling and diving some of the best in Madagascar. The on-site dive centre offers PADI courses and guided trips to the reefs around the Mitsio Archipelago. Guests can snorkel directly from the beach or take boat trips to explore nearby islands. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available, and fishing excursions or private boat trips can be arranged.
On land, the island itself is easy to explore, with trails leading through its tropical vegetation and viewpoints across the ocean. Birdlife is abundant, and nature walks are a gentle way to enjoy the island’s landscape.
Evenings are simple and atmospheric, usually with dinner under the stars and drinks at the beach bar. The atmosphere is quiet and sociable, but never busy or crowded.
Constance Tsarabanjina is an island retreat that is all about barefoot simplicity, tranquillity, and natural beauty. It appeals to couples and travellers who want to switch off completely, enjoy the sea and reefs, and feel immersed in a small, exclusive world of sand, sea, and sky.
