Van der Valk Plaza Beach & Dive Resort Bonaire (often shortened to Plaza Beach & Dive Resort) is a relaxed, full-service, all-inclusive beach resort on Bonaire’s west coast, just outside Kralendijk. It suits guests who want an easy, resort-style stay with plenty on site: a private beach, three pools, a proper on-site dive operation, and a genuinely convenient house reef for snorkelling and shore diving, plus a marina for boat trips and water activities.

For swimming, there are three pools spread across the resort. Two are geared towards relaxed, sunbed-and-sea-view lounging, and the third is a deeper training pool used for dive instruction, with observation windows so instructors can monitor divers. The main pool is right by the sea and is described as being filled with mineral-rich “magnawater”, and there is also an infinity pool by the Royal Residence area looking towards the marina entrance. Sun loungers, umbrellas and towel service are available around the pools, and pool service is run via the Palm Beach Bar.

For diving and snorkelling, this is one of the resort’s biggest strengths. The resort explicitly markets its house reef, 18th Palm Reef, as being just steps from the beach and easy to access for snorkellers, with colourful coral, plenty of fish life and the chance of seeing turtles. For divers, the same reef is directly in front of the resort, with the idea of stepping from the beach into clear water and directly onto the protected reef.

The on-site dive school offers shore and boat diving for all levels, including night dives and training, with equipment rental and Nitrox refills, plus practical conveniences like changing rooms and lockers. It’s also open to non-resident divers, so it operates as a proper dive centre rather than a token “dive desk”.

If you want to mix diving with lighter “holiday mode” activities, the Activity Center schedules and organises things like kayaking, snorkel tours, beach games, aqua gym and beach yoga, and the resort also notes a Kids Club element within the activity offering.

For water access beyond the reef, the resort has a private marina (Plaza Marina) and promotes on-site charter options through Bonaire Yacht Charters, including catamaran trips, motorboat charters and sunset cruises, plus other water sports experiences.

For fitness, there is an on-site gym (ARA Gym) equipped with cardio machines, strength stations, dumbbells and a training rack, with air conditioning and a water tap for bottles, and the resort notes that an instructor is present twice a week.

The Palm Beach Bar sits right by the pool and on the beach and is designed for all-day, toes-in-the-sand ease: coffee and juices earlier on, then beers, wines, cocktails and soft drinks through the day, plus light lunches and snacks, and a livelier feel around sunset with regular music.

For families, the resort positions itself as a convenient all-rounder with family room options and kid-friendly dining, and it references kids-focused activities via the resort programme (including a Kids Club).

For spa and wellness, it’s worth setting expectations carefully. Some third-party listings state there isn’t a full spa (but that massages are available), while the resort’s own updates indicate plans for a “Senti Spa” in 2026 (with treatments such as a head spa and manicure treatments, plus a sauna mentioned).

Deluxe Room Garden is a renovated deluxe room of 38 m² (about 409 sq ft) with a king-size bed, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, kettle/tea and coffee facilities, safe, hairdryer and a balcony or terrace overlooking the gardens.

Deluxe Room Laguna is a renovated deluxe room of 38 m² (about 409 sq ft) with a king-size bed and similar contemporary comforts, but with lagoon views from the private balcony or terrace.

Deluxe Room Double King Bed is a larger renovated deluxe room of 42 m² (about 452 sq ft) designed around two king-size beds, with lagoon views from a private terrace, air conditioning, safe, kettle/tea and coffee facilities and a walk-in shower.

Deluxe Room Family is a renovated family-focused room of 40 m² (about 431 sq ft) with one king-size bed plus a separate bunk-bed area, a private terrace with garden views, and the usual modern in-room amenities (air conditioning, safe, kettle/tea and coffee facilities, Wi-Fi).

Junior Suite Poolside is a spacious junior suite of 60 m² (about 646 sq ft) with pool views and glimpses of the Caribbean Sea, a private terrace or balcony, and either two king-size beds or one king-size bed, plus air conditioning, flat-screen TV, safe and kettle/tea and coffee facilities.

Grand Suite Laguna is a 60 m² (about 646 sq ft) suite with lagoon and marina views, a private terrace or balcony, and either two king-size beds or one king-size bed, plus air conditioning, flat-screen TV, safe and kettle/tea and coffee facilities.

Grand Suite Ocean is also 60 m² (about 646 sq ft), but faces the Caribbean Sea for sea views and sunsets. It has a private terrace or balcony and the same bed configuration options (either two king-size beds or one king-size bed) with modern suite amenities.

Royal Residence One-Bedroom Apartment is a modern apartment of 50 m² (about 538 sq ft) with a separate bedroom (king-size bed), a living room with open kitchen, and an optional sofa bed. It includes air conditioning, Wi-Fi, safe, television, a walk-in shower, and a fully equipped kitchenette with stove, oven, fridge and dishwasher, plus a balcony or terrace with garden views.

Royal Residence Two-Bedroom Apartment is a larger apartment of 85 m² (about 915 sq ft) with two separate bedrooms, each furnished with a king-size bed, plus a living room and a fully equipped kitchenette (stove, oven, fridge, dishwasher). It has air conditioning, Wi-Fi, safe and TV, and a balcony or terrace with views over the lagoon and Plaza Marina.

Penthouse Ocean View is the top-tier option, listed at 260 m² (about 2,799 sq ft) and a very large penthouse with a spacious terrace set up for outdoor dining and sun loungers, plus a living room and a modern kitchen with high-end appliances. 

Penthouse Laguna View is likewise listed at 260 m² (about 2,799 sq ft) and a three-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse, with each bedroom set up with a king-size bed, plus a large private terrace for outdoor dining and lagoon views.

On the food and drink side, the resort is built around an all-inclusive offering. Momento is the main live-cooking restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with sea views, and it’s positioned as the hub for the “unlimited meals, snacks, drinks, and entertainment” style of stay.
