Tour Highlights

Start with the drama of a Mount Meru climb, trekking through dense forest and open moorland to reach the summit at sunrise, with vast views stretching across northern Tanzania towards Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s a real adventure — wild, rewarding and far less crowded — offering a true sense of achievement at the start of your journey.

From there, fly into the heart of the Serengeti National Park for a three-night luxury safari. Stay in an intimate tented camp or boutique lodge, where expert guides, beautifully prepared food and elegant surroundings combine with world-class wildlife viewing. Early morning and late afternoon game drives bring you close to lion, elephant and, depending on the season, the Great Migration, while afternoons are for relaxing with sweeping plains stretching endlessly before you.

Then finish by the ocean, either in Zanzibar or along the Kenyan coast or islands, where the focus shifts entirely to your chosen ocean sport. Whether that’s kitesurfing, diving, snorkelling or wingfoiling, this final chapter is all about warm water, steady wind or clear reefs — pure, active beach living to round off an extraordinary summit-to-savannah-to-sea journey.

Days 1 - 3

4* Gran Melia Arusha

Breakfast

On arrival at Arusha (by plane or road), you will be met and transferred to one of the best hotels in Arusha for the first 2 nights of the trip. This allows for a full day of briefings and training prior to your Mount Meru 4-day climb.

Arusha

Arusha is a vibrant city in northern Tanzania, often referred to as the gateway to some of Africa's most renowned natural wonders. Nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, it offers a stunning backdrop of lush greenery and distant mountain peaks.

The city is a starting point for safaris to world-famous destinations like Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. Arusha itself is rich in culture, with bustling markets, craft shops, and local eateries where you can experience Tanzanian cuisine and hospitality. Visitors often explore nearby attractions, including coffee plantations and the Maasai cultural villages, for an authentic glimpse into the region's traditions. With its blend of urban energy and natural beauty, Arusha provides tourists an ideal mix of adventure and cultural immersion.

Days 3 - 6

3* Mount Meru Climb

Full Board

Day One – Depart Arusha for Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. After registration, the trek begins across open savannah, accompanied by a park ranger. Wildlife sightings are common, including giraffe, zebra, buffalo and monkeys. The trail climbs steadily to Miriakamba Huts. Around 4–6 hours walking.

Day Two – Continue through lush rainforest into the heather zone, with giant heather trees and dramatic scenery. Follow the ridge to the saddle, with superb views into Meru’s crater and across to the Ash Cone. Optional acclimatisation walk to Little Mount Meru. Around 3–5 hours walking.

Day Three – Summit day. A midnight start leads steeply past Rhino Point and Cobra Point to Socialist Peak in time for sunrise over Tanzania. After enjoying the views, descend back to Miriakamba Huts. A challenging but rewarding day.

Day Four – Descend through forest back to Momella Gate, where your vehicle will transfer you to Arusha.

Mount Meru

Mount Meru is located in the centre of Arusha National Park. It stands at 14,977 feet tall, which makes it the second-highest peak in Tanzania. And fifth highest in Africa.

Meru is a dormant volcano. You will see views of the Ash cone as you ascend to the summit. Unlike Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru lacks the crowds. This makes for a peaceful, yet tough climb. In addition to the solitude, you also enjoy sleeping in huts. Since Meru is located inside Arusha National park you may glimpse a variety of wildlife, including giraffe, zebra, colobus monkeys, leopards and hyenas, in the park’s small but bustling 53 square miles of natural habitats.

Days 7 - 8

4* Gran Melia Arusha

Half Board

Today you will have an overnight stay back at your luxury hotel to recover from the climb and prepare for your safari.

5* Siringit Ndutu Tented Camp

Full Board and all game drives

Today you will take a small plane to fly you into the heart of the Serengeti National Park. There are many options in this area, depending on the time of year, your budget, and what you would like to see.

For the purpose of this example itinerary we have used the Siringit Ndutu Tented Camps, a luxury mobile tented camp set in the Ndutu region of the southern Serengeti, perfectly positioned for the Great Migration calving season from around December to March. With a small number of beautifully styled canvas tents, the camp offers an intimate, high-end safari experience, featuring proper beds, en suite bathrooms, and hot showers, all set against vast open plains.

For clients travelling from July to October, we recommend using the Northern Serengeti migration camps as this is when the Great Migration typically concentrates in the north, with dramatic Mara River crossings and exceptional predator action. Staying in this region during these months offers the best chance of witnessing the herds at their most spectacular, while enjoying quieter, more exclusive wildlife viewing away from the central Serengeti.

The Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti, located in northern Tanzania, is a world-renowned wilderness and a crown jewel of Africa’s safari destinations. Its name, derived from the Maasai word "Siringet," meaning "endless plains," perfectly describes the expansive grasslands that stretch as far as the eye can see. This vast ecosystem, covering approximately 30,000 square kilometres, is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife, including the famous Big Five—lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhinoceroses—as well as cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and countless other species.

One of the Serengeti’s most extraordinary features is the Great Migration, a natural phenomenon where over two million wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles traverse its plains in a continuous cycle of movement, driven by the search for fresh grazing and water. This epic journey includes dramatic river crossings, particularly along the Grumeti and Mara rivers, where predators like crocodiles lie in wait, and it is a highlight for many visitors.

The best time to visit the Serengeti depends on what you wish to experience. From December to March, the southern plains come alive during the calving season, when thousands of baby wildebeests and zebras are born. This attracts predators like lions and cheetahs, making it an excellent time for wildlife viewing and witnessing the circle of life. From June to October, the dry season offers prime conditions for game viewing as animals gather around water sources, and it’s also when the Great Migration reaches the northern Serengeti. This period is famous for the dramatic river crossings, particularly from July to September, which are among the most thrilling wildlife spectacles in the world. November and early December mark the short rainy season, when the migration begins its journey back south, and the landscape transforms into a lush, green haven.
