For those bringing their own gear, already qualified and happy to dive in testier conditions - The Lac Bay Centre offers great diving on the east side of Bonaire (as well as other spots). Beginner divers WILL find this side of the Island challenging but once in the water species to spot include turtles (loads!), spotted & eagle rays , stingrays and sharks to name but a few.
The Dive centre is the owner of two specially designed boats, ready to take you to the most beautiful dive sites Bonaire has to offer. The custom built Zodiacs, equipped with all the necessary safety gear, makes diving on the windward side a breeze for all levels of divers.
Take a deep breath, as the passionate and skilled crew guides you beneath the waves. From drifting across vibrant coral reefs, bustling with turtles… to the vastness of the big blue, where eagle rays fly and fish school… This is their office, and they are happy to show you around!!!!
Bonaire has been well known for many years as one of the shore diving capitals of the world. The geographical shape of the island creates natural protection on the west side against the constant eastern trade winds. The shallow coral reefs make it a one of a kind dive destination – a true diver’s paradise – where “unlimited” shore diving is possible. Nevertheless, the leeward side does not even cover half of the shoreline. This offers lots of sites to be yet discovered on the north, south and mainly the east side of the island. Come and explore the untouched corals and abundant marine life these sites have to offer!
Diving is limited to 10 people per boat - so nice and small groups. 9 and 11 litre tanks for regular Air and enriched Nitrox are available. We can source full kit rentals if need be , but best to take your own.
The Lac Bay Dive centre offers daily trips to the east coast of Bonaire, featuring a two-tank dive in the morning and a single-tank dive in the afternoon. Reservations are mandatory and can be made directly via Planet Dive. It is recommended to schedule the trip during the first half of a stay on Bonaire, as many divers find themselves wanting to return for more. Depending on weather conditions, the captain may decide to reschedule a dive.
A minimum of six divers is required for all trips. If a single diver signs up and there are not enough reservations, the dive may need to be rescheduled to the next available date.
All dive trips depart from the fishermen’s pier at Sorobon. To reach the departure point, head south of the airport and take the main road going east. Follow the road straight ahead for about 10 minutes, then turn left at the T-junction. Continue until the road ends, where the pier, along with the recognizable truck and boat, will be visible.
Divers should bring their own dive gear, including weights, while tanks are provided.
For safety reasons, all divers must use a dive computer. If needed, rentals are available and can be added to the reservation.
