Komandoo Island Resort, in detail

Komandoo Island

Komandoo Island Resort in the Maldives is an intimate adults-only retreat, best suited for couples, honeymooners, and travellers seeking peace, romance, and barefoot luxury. The atmosphere is relaxed and natural, with lush greenery surrounding a soft white beach and a calm turquoise lagoon. The island has a quiet, romantic charm and is known for its attentive service, excellent diving and snorkelling, and a sense of seclusion that makes it perfect for those who want to escape busy resorts and focus on each other. Its highlights include an overwater restaurant with sweeping ocean views, a fine house reef just offshore, and some of the best dive sites in the Lhaviyani Atoll.
The villas are designed to be stylish yet understated, using wood, thatch, and warm tones to blend in with the island’s natural beauty. There are no towering buildings or large family suites, as the resort caters exclusively to adults who value privacy and tranquillity.
The Beach Villas measure around 62 square metres and are built directly along the shoreline. Each has a king-size bed, a spacious bedroom, and a semi-open bathroom with an outdoor shower. They accommodate a maximum of two adults and open directly onto the sand, with a furnished veranda for private lounging by the sea.
The Jacuzzi Beach Villas are slightly larger at 76 square metres and share the same beachside setting, but with the added luxury of a private Jacuzzi tucked away in a secluded garden area. They also feature a king-size bed, open-air bathroom, and veranda, making them a popular choice for couples who want extra space and indulgence while still staying close to the water.
The Jacuzzi Water Villas measure 88 square metres and are built on stilts over the lagoon. These villas offer direct access to the ocean from a private deck, a large bedroom with a king-size bed, and a bathroom with both indoor and outdoor features, including a Jacuzzi with views across the lagoon. They are designed for two adults and are especially appealing to honeymooners who want the classic Maldivian overwater experience.
The Premium Jacuzzi Water Villas are the most luxurious category, also sized at 88 square metres but positioned for the best sunset views across the lagoon. With a king-size bed, private Jacuzzi, sun deck with loungers, and steps into the ocean, they provide the most romantic setting on the island. Like all other villas, they are limited to two adults, ensuring privacy and serenity.
The resort facilities are designed to enhance its boutique feel. The infinity pool overlooks the beach and is a peaceful place to swim or relax on a sunbed with uninterrupted ocean views. The main restaurant, Falhu, serves buffet-style meals with live cooking stations and a wide international choice, all in an open-air setting beside the water. Aqua, the à la carte overwater restaurant, offers fine dining with panoramic sea views and is especially known for its romantic dinners. The bars, including Kandu Bar, serve cocktails, wines, and evening entertainment in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Duniye Spa is set by the water and offers a wide range of treatments inspired by both Asian and European traditions, using natural products in tranquil open-air treatment rooms. It is particularly known for couples’ massages at sunset, combining wellness with romance.
Although Komandoo is a place for relaxation, it also offers plenty of activities for those who want to be active. The fully equipped fitness centre allows guests to maintain their training, while yoga sessions are held in peaceful island settings. Diving is a major draw, with a professional dive centre on site offering courses and guided trips to some of the richest reefs in the atoll. Snorkelling is easy directly from the beach or house reef, and excursions include boat trips to manta cleaning stations, dolphin cruises, and fishing trips. Water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and windsurfing are also available.
Evenings are calm and romantic, often with soft live music or cultural events, but never loud or intrusive. The resort does not have children’s facilities, as it is strictly adults-only, maintaining an atmosphere of privacy and calm throughout.
Komandoo Island Resort is, at its heart, a boutique hideaway designed for couples who want a mix of relaxation, romance, and world-class diving in a natural Maldivian setting. It is quiet, elegant, and personal, with just the right balance between seclusion and thoughtful service.
