Olakira Migration Camp

Olakira Migration Camp is best suited to travellers whose main priority is experiencing the Great Migration up close, combined with a refined yet authentic safari atmosphere. The feel is classic, intimate and adventurous, with a strong emphasis on location, guiding quality and flexibility rather than permanent luxury. It is particularly well suited to couples, keen wildlife photographers and experienced safari travellers who understand the value of being in exactly the right place at the right time. The camp is a mobile operation that moves seasonally within the Serengeti ecosystem to follow the migration of wildebeest and zebra, ensuring exceptional game viewing throughout the year.

Accommodation is provided in a small number of traditional safari tents designed to offer comfort while maintaining a light footprint on the land. Each tent is approximately 45 to 50 square metres including the veranda. The tents are spacious and well separated, offering privacy and uninterrupted views over the surrounding plains. Beds are proper safari beds with high-quality mattresses and crisp linen, protected by mosquito netting. Tents are configured either with one king-size bed or two large single beds, and can accommodate a maximum of two adults.

Each tent features a private en-suite bathroom located at the rear, with a safari-style bucket shower providing hot water on request, a flush toilet, a vanity basin and quality toiletries. Interiors are styled in a classic safari aesthetic using neutral tones, wooden furniture, soft rugs and lantern lighting, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Every tent includes a shaded veranda with seating, ideal for relaxing and watching wildlife move through the area.

Olakira Migration Camp also offers a dedicated family tent during certain seasons. This unit is larger than the standard tents and typically consists of two sleeping areas with a shared bathroom in between. One area is fitted with a king-size bed, while the second has twin beds. The family tent can accommodate up to four guests and is suitable for families with older children who are comfortable with a mobile safari environment. There are no villas or penthouses, as the camp’s philosophy is centred on elegant simplicity and mobility.

The central camp area includes a comfortable mess tent that serves as the lounge and dining space. This area is furnished with sofas, armchairs and dining tables, and opens out to the surrounding landscape, allowing guests to feel fully immersed in the Serengeti. Meals are a key part of the experience and are prepared by a skilled camp chef, offering a mix of international and safari-style cuisine. Breakfasts may be enjoyed in camp or as bush breakfasts, lunches are relaxed and flexible, and dinners are atmospheric affairs served by lantern light under the stars.

There is no swimming pool, spa or gym, in keeping with the camp’s mobile nature and focus on wildlife. The emphasis is firmly on time spent on safari and on being present in the environment. Evenings are often spent around the campfire, sharing stories of the day’s sightings while listening to the sounds of the plains.

Activities revolve entirely around wildlife viewing in the Serengeti. Game drives are conducted in open safari vehicles and led by highly experienced guides with expert knowledge of the migration and predator behaviour. The guiding style is flexible and responsive, allowing drives to adapt to animal movements and photographic opportunities. When conditions allow, walking safaris may be offered, providing a deeper understanding of the landscape and its smaller details.

Olakira Migration Camp welcomes children of an appropriate age, but there are no dedicated children’s facilities. The experience is best suited to families with older children who have a genuine interest in wildlife and are comfortable with a more adventurous safari style.

Electricity is supplied via generators and solar power, primarily for lighting and charging small devices. Connectivity is limited, reinforcing the sense of remoteness and escape. The overall atmosphere is calm, focused and deeply connected to the rhythms of the Serengeti.
