Tour Highlights
Days 1 - 6
5* Azura Quilalea
Arrive in Pemba, Mozambique, before whipped away on a helicopter transfer to the exquisite Azura Quilalea Private Island. This hidden gem offers somewhere to retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life, with a relaxed and understated ‘Robinson Crusoe’ castaway style that belies the comforts and experiences on offer in the nine seafront villas.
Northern Mozambique
The northerly town of Pemba, which is situated at the mouth of a large bay of the same name, is the getaway to the islands of Northern Mozambique. Pemba Bay is considered to be the world largest inland bay and it is 375 sq km in size with beautiful blue water that is uniformly 24 metres deep.
There has never been much trading activity at Pemba with the result that there is not much industry at Pemba and this has proved beneficial as the natural beauty has been kept and the magnificent beaches are not polluted.
In this remote corner of the world you can expect secluded islands, a rich underwater world, crystal clear water, interesting cultural and historical sites and amazing fresh seafood. It's a relatively unexplored destination with a scenic beauty that is akin to that of an undiscovered and undeveloped Maldives.
The Quirimbas archipelago lies to the north of Pemba, running up to the Tanzanian border, and is home to a variety of exclusive, hard to reach luxury holiday resorts - and that is part of the charm. These romantic beach resorts offer a hidden escape that few places in the world could possibly hope to achieve. You can expect well run, service orientated establishments where your ever whim is catered for and empty stretches of beach for you to enjoy all to yourself are not hard to find.
And when you are done lazing around with a good book next to your own private plunge pool you can enjoy amazing scuba diving experiences, peaceful dhow cruises, or visits to the historical sites and Portuguese villas of Ibo Island.
Combine your luxurious getaway to Northern Mozambique with a fantastic safari experience for the best bush and beach holiday money can buy.
Days 3 - 4
5* Radisson Maputo
After saying goodbye to the paradise that is Azura Quilalea, enjoy a panoramic helicopter ride back to Pemba and thereafter fly out to Maputo where you will overnight before continuing on the rest of your journey. Maputo is the capital city of Mozambique and is a bustling port city littered with traditional Portuguese colonial architecture. Spend your day exploring the sites of the city, shopping at the local market or simply relaxing by the bar or pool of your hotel.
Maputo
Days 4 - 10
5* Azura Benguerra
Leave Maputo to your final destination - the quaint fishing village of Vilanculos. After landing in Vilanculos you will find yet another helicopter waiting to continue your journey to the magical Bazaruto Archipelago.
Southern Mozambique
Southern Mozambique is famous for its miles of unspoiled shores and turquoise, warm waters. This remote destination is home to several of the finest beaches in Mozambique and offers an amazing location for water sports enthusiasts with excellent scuba diving, surfing, sailing, snorkelling and kitesurfing. You can spot manta rays, turtles, whales and various other reef fish while chances of whale shark sightings are also particularly good in this area. This area is also one of the few in Southern Mozambique where the last remaining Dugong can be seen.
This area on the east coast Mozambique was developed as a trading post and was one of Vasco de Gama's favorite spots in Africa. Due to the colonial history, this area is rich in culture with churches, mosques and Hindu temples all common sites. The fishing village of Vilanculos serves as the main tourist area and gateway to the surrounding exquisite islands. The area still maintains an authentic local feeling and is home to a number of great restaurants and bars where you can try the local seafood and enjoy a sunset cocktail.
