Overview La Galigo Liveaboard
La Galigo is a premier diving liveaboard that operates in Indonesia at some of the most popular diving locations in the world. Komodo, Raja Ampat and Wakatobi are among some of these fantastic diving destinations.
La Galigo was acquired in Bali, a beautiful purpose-built ‘Phinisi’ style dive liveaboard, handcrafted by the Bugis people of Southern Sulawesi. It has a full Indonesian crew, who have collectively spent many years sailing and diving around a significant number of the 18,000+ stunning islands that make up Indonesia.
The boat's schedule is primarily split between Raja Ampat and Komodo, though offers the opportunity to dive Wakatobi, Banda, Ambon, Maumere, Alor and beyond. Land excursions are included as part of the trips, so guests get to experience the beauty of the islands as well as marvel at the underwater world.
Accommodation
The vessel takes a maximum of 14 guests comfortably with accommodation offered as seven cabins split over two floors. All cabins are double or twin share with air-con, hot water, and ensuite facilities.
There are several deck areas where people can chill, catch a few rays or read a book. Indoors you will find the saloon where the excellent chef serves a mixture of Indonesian and International cuisine, and the lounge area with an extensive library of books, games and tv so that people can check out their dive videos.
The hull of La Galigo has been constructed from what is known locally as ‘Kayu Besi’ which translates as ‘Iron Wood’. All interiors and the remainder of the vessel have been thoughtfully finished in tropical teak, with a combined weight of over 169 gross tons. La Galigo Liveaboard was designed and project managed by an avid liveaboard diver with comforts and practicality in mind, and to this day, is one of the only wooden liveaboards with a dedicated dive platform located at the rear of the vessel. Motor and generator noise have been engineered out by isolating the engine room away from rooms with thick soundproofing, which even though not silent, makes for a better night’s sleep. All cabins are fitted with en-suite facilities and are filled with plentiful natural light and spectacular views of the passing seas and islands.
