Al Moudira Hotel Luxor West Bank
One of our favourite hotels in Egypt. The Al Moudira is an exceptional retreat on the West Bank of Luxor, best suited to guests who appreciate art, culture and quiet elegance. It is ideal for travellers who want something more characterful than a modern hotel, offering an atmosphere that blends Ottoman, Arabian and Egyptian design in a serene garden setting. The highlight of the property is its romantic architecture, peaceful courtyards, hand-painted interiors and the sense of staying in a traditional palace. Its location on the West Bank places guests close to the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens and the main archaeological treasures of Luxor, while still feeling secluded and tranquil.
The Standard Rooms are intimate spaces of around 30 to 35 square metres, furnished with either a king-size bed or twin beds and suitable for a maximum of two guests. Each room features hand-painted ceilings, traditional antique pieces, arched doorways and colourful textiles, with a private bathroom decorated in warm, Middle Eastern style.
The Superior Rooms are larger, typically between 35 and 45 square metres, and offer a more generous layout with a king-size bed and space for an additional child if required. These rooms stand out for their beautifully crafted furniture, high domed ceilings and quiet seating corners, with views over the gardens or courtyards.
The Junior Suites measure roughly 50 to 60 square metres and are ideal for guests who want extra comfort and space. They feature a separate sitting area, a king-size bed, and can accommodate up to three people. These suites are individually decorated, often with arched alcoves, high wooden doors and vibrant hand-painted motifs.
The Large Suites, sometimes referred to as the Executive Suites, are around 70 to 80 square metres and feel like private apartments. They have spacious lounges, luxurious king-size beds and marble-clad bathrooms. These suites comfortably accommodate two adults and one child and often include impressive architectural details such as vaulted ceilings, elegant pillars and ornate lantern lighting.
The Royal Suites are the most exclusive accommodation at Al Moudira, measuring approximately 90 to 120 square metres. These are perfect for guests seeking total privacy and indulgence, with grand salons, separate bedrooms, king-size beds and room for up to three guests. They include large traditional bathrooms, private terraces and some of the most intricate hand-painted artistry in the whole hotel. These suites give the feeling of staying in a grand historic residence rather than a hotel.
The hotel’s facilities are designed to echo the leisurely rhythm of a traditional palace dwelling. The central courtyard gardens are filled with palm trees, flowering plants and shaded corners, creating a peaceful retreat for reading or relaxing. The outdoor swimming pool is set within a walled garden, surrounded by loungers and greenery, offering a tranquil place to cool down after a day exploring Luxor’s archaeological sites.
Dining at Al Moudira is a refined but relaxed experience, with menus inspired by Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Egyptian cuisine. Meals are served in atmospheric indoor salons or in the outdoor courtyards, where lanterns, arches and tiled floors create a beautifully romantic ambience. The kitchen focuses on fresh local ingredients, homemade breads and traditional dishes presented with elegance.
There is also a bar and lounge area that feels like an old Arabian drawing room, with soft lighting, comfortable seating and antique furnishings, making it perfect for an evening drink or a quiet break in the afternoon heat.
The small spa offers massages and wellness treatments inspired by traditional techniques, using natural oils and calming rituals to help guests unwind. Although Al Moudira is not a resort with large leisure complexes, it offers a peaceful environment for relaxation, and its gardens and courtyards create an intimate setting for rest and quiet contemplation.
The hotel does not have dedicated children’s facilities, making it more suitable for adults, couples, and culturally minded families with older children. There are no water sports, as the property focuses on cultural travel rather than resort-style activities, but the concierge can assist in arranging guided tours, private drivers and visits to the extraordinary temples and tombs around Luxor.
Al Moudira is a property for travellers who value authenticity, artistic detail and a strong sense of place. Its hand-crafted architecture, peaceful gardens and intimate atmosphere create a unique experience that feels more like staying in a private palace than a hotel, making it one of the most distinctive and memorable places to stay in Luxor.
