Diving holidays are a fantastic way to spend your precious time off. Travel to some of the most beautiful places on the planet, strap on a tank and explore the stunning underwater environments. It’s a great way to relax and restore yourself after months at work.
The other great thing about diving is that it takes you to some of the most beautiful and fascinating parts of the planet. And since you are travelling all that way, you might as well add a little extra time to your trip to experience something else the region has to offer.
There are a number of classic dive/add on itineraries that we recommend, and we’ve listed some of them below to give you an idea of what’s available…
Gozo/Malta
Located in the Med, Gozo is a smaller island that forms part of the country of Malta. And seeing as all travel will go through the larger island, Malta itself, you might as well enjoy a few days here before or after your diving holiday to Gozo. Explore the Calypso Cave, said to be the place where Homer wrote the Odyssey, or discover a wealth of history and culture on an island that proudly displays its Roman, Moorish, French and British history.
Egypt
You don’t have to leave Egypt to discover a whole new world. As well as exceptional diving off the Red Sea coast, you can also visit world famous attractions such as the Pyramids, Luxor, the temples at Aswan and the museums at Cairo.
Mauritius/South Africa
Mauritius is an achingly beautiful island chain in the Indian Ocean where you can experience world class diving. Direct flights to the island are possible but it is just as easy to go via nearby South Africa. Which opens the possibility of combining your dive trip with a safari experience in one of South Africa’s legendary reserves.
Galapagos/Peru
Made famous by Darwin, the truly unique natural environment of the Galapagos lies six hundred miles off the South American coast. It is a diver’s paradise, with unusually tame sea creatures and rich waters teeming with life. And seeing as you have to go through the mainland to get here, why not combine your trip with a visit to Peru? Visit Lake Titicaca, the lost city of Machu Picchu and the historic city of Cusco.
Maldives/ Sri Lanka
The island chain of the Maldives is comprised of 26 atolls and more than 1,000 small coral islands. Dive in its endless blue lagoons and colourful tropical reefs. Then, on your way back to the UK, make a stop off in Sri Lanka. It’s a vibrant and exciting country full of magnificent food, majestic temples and sprawling national parks.
If you love diving but want to combine your trip with a different kind of holiday, then any of the above add-on tours are a great idea. An exhilarating mix of history and adventure, beauty and cuisine, and learning and wonder. Add-on to your diving trip for a truly memorable experience.
