OVERVIEW
Soma Bay is a 40 minute transfer south of Hurghada Airport. The resort offers a combination of a high standard hotels and a quiet relaxing location. The resort is spit into 2 areas: Abu Soma (to the south of the main bay) and Soma Bay (the main resort on the North side). Planet offer sporting activities and hotels in both locations so please make sure you speak to one of our expert travel advisors to make sure we book you at the right location for your requirements.
THE DIVING
The house reef at Soma Bay stretches from the east to the west of the peninsula. With a diverse marine life and an abundance of corals it is truly a delight for all experience levels. A lagoon lies at the front of the reef and provides sheltered waters ideal for training. The house reef boasts a fantastic array of marine life with sightings of large pelagics like barracuda, turtles and eagle rays being commonplace.
ACTIVITIES
Soma Bay is a secluded spot for those wishing to just relax in luxury if not on the water. However, there are a variety of excursions, tours and day trips to the interior of this fascinating country. Egypt is probably the world's oldest civilization having emerged from the Nile Valley around 3,100 years ago. This "Gift of the Nile", as described by Herodotus, boasts a longer recorded history than any other country on earth. A country of legends and mysteries, the birthplace of ancient civilization with a third of the world's most magnificent and awesome monuments and treasures.
With a wealth of destination knowledge and travel industry experience, we specialise in tailor made tours, so please ask for any special itinerary to take in specific tour / sightseeing.
THE CLIMATE
The hottest time of the year is July and August with air temperature of over 30 degrees C. The coolest time is January with the temperature at around 20 degrees C. Rainfall is negligable and it is invariably sunny but breezes can be cool.
NIGHTLIFE
Soma Bay does not have a town so this is a hotel based holiday. Safaga is the closest town but has very little to offer in the evenings, so if you feel the need for bright lights, then head for Hurghada.
